July 29, 2023: The Day My Life Changed Forever

My world shattered on July 29, 2023. A phone call, one I was not prepared for, altered my life irrevocably. Just hours before, I had left my mother's side, cherishing the warmth of her embrace, never imagining it would be our final goodbye.

Learning to live without you, Ma, has been the hardest thing I've ever had to do. With each passing day, the ache of your absence gnaws at my heart. I miss you more than words can express, and the pain feels as raw as it did in those first devastating moments.

My mother was more than just a parent; she was a pillar of our community, a woman whose love and generosity touched countless lives. Her dedication to Northside, our beloved neighborhood, instilled in me the importance of service, of being a voice for those who need one, of standing firm in my convictions and never surrendering.

Ma, you taught me that true leadership isn't just about having followers, but about uplifting those around you, even if they don't fully understand the reason. Your legacy is one of selflessness, of putting the needs of others before your own. You showed me that when you support your people, they will be there to support you in return.

On this day, the anniversary of your passing, I ask that you say a special prayer for me and my family as we navigate the still-turbulent waters of grief. Let us continue to feel your guidance, your unwavering love.

And to those reading this, I implore you to take a lesson from my mother's book. Be the change you wish to see in your community. Lend a hand, offer a listening ear, be a rock for those who need steadying. In doing so, you'll not only be honoring my mother's memory but creating a ripple effect of compassion that will touch lives for generations to come.

I love you, Ma, with every fiber of my being. You may be gone, but your impact lives on through me, through our family, and through the Northside community you loved so deeply. Until we meet again, know that I'll keep pushing forward, inspired by the incredible woman you were.

Continue to rest in peace, my #1 Lady.
